External evaluation of U R Boss: legal service shaped by young people in custody
Evaluation team appointed
A team from the University of De Montfort has been appointed to undertake the evaluation of U R Boss.
The team:
- Dr Jennie Fleming, Director of the University’s Centre for Social Action
- Jean Hine from the Centre's Communities and Criminal Justice team
- Roger Smith, Professor of Social Work Research
- Dr Scott Yates from the Centre's Youth Affairs Unit
- David Ward, Professor of Social and Community Care, and
- a team of young researchers working with the Centre for Social Action
Jennie Fleming commented on the task of the evaluation team,
"Some of the most persistent abuses of young people's human rights in this country over the last 30 years has been their treatment within the criminal justice system, especially whilst in custody. U R Boss is an innovative project seeking to involve young people in building a service to meet their needs in custody and on release, and to generate change within that system. We are pleased to have the opportunity to work in partnership with De Montfort’s young researchers to evaluate U R Boss, ensuring the learning from the project can be used by those seeking to improve services for young people in the penal system in the future."
