Growing up shut up
The Growing up shut up campaign aims to give a voice to the disenfranchised and neglected children in our prisons and in other areas of criminal justice.
England and Wales jails more children than any other country in Western Europe. 76% of these children reoffend within one year of release. Prison Service custody is not safe for children or effective in cutting crime.
We want to encourage a new way of working with children who commit crimes – one which engages with the whole child and the underlying causes of their behaviour, not just the crime.
We want to acknowledge the support of J Paul Getty Jnr Charitable Trust for our work with young people.
