Lucy Scott-Moncrieff swimming the Hellespont in support of the Howard League
First Leander, then Lord Byron, and now Lucy.....swimming between Asia and Europe. Every year the busy shipping lane, the Hellespont, is closed for 90 minutes so that a 4 kilometre race can take place. This year, on 30th August, legal aid lawyer Lucy Scott-Moncrieff will be racing in aid of the Howard League.

Last chance to nominate successful community programmes
The Howard League for Penal Reform is looking for successful and innovative community programmes in the criminal justice sector. The Awards will be presented at a celebratory event at the House of Lords. The winning schemes will be widely publicised.
The deadline to nominate for the Community Programme Award is 1 May 2008.

Reboot required for high security estate
Prisoners in high security jails feel that poor relationships with staff and poor regimes behind bars are undermining their preparation for life after release, with inevitable consequences for reoffending, according to a report 'High Security Prisons: Prisoner Perspective' published today (20 March 2008) by the Howard League for Penal Reform.

The Howard League for Penal Reform can confirm today (Monday, 3 March) that it will be sending a review team to Jersey to examine issues around the treatment of children in care in Jersey.

The Howard League for Penal Reform welcomes confirmation of inquiry
The Howard League for Penal Reform has today (Wednesday, 19 December) welcomed confirmation that Stephen Shaw, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO), will chair a public inquiry into the treatment of SP whilst in prison service custody between 2003-2005.
