The researcher
Dr Julie Trebilcock is a Lecturer based at Keele University. Her main research interests relate to imprisonment, forensic mental health and legal decision-making. Having recently completed her PhD, which considered the institutional journeys of male patients and prisoners based in four high security Dangerous and Severe Personality Disorder (DSPD) units and the legal decision-making of Parole Board and Mental Health Review Tribunal panels with this population, Julie has been involved with a number of other DSPD related projects. These include an investigation of the (changing) legal authority by which DSPD patients and prisoners are detained, and more recently, a large evaluation study regarding the management, organisation and staffing of the high security DSPD units.
Alongside her work with the Howard League, Julie is also developing her research interests in the field of mental health and is currently undertaking research about the National Problem Gambling Clinic in London. This is an innovative NHS funded service which offers treatment to problem gamblers aged 16 and over.
