National Student Conference 2013

Think beyond the bars: The dynamics of desistance

When and where?

Our fourth National Student Conference will be held on Wednesday, 20 November 2013 and will focus on desistance. All students are welcome! The conference will begin at 10am and will run until 4.15pm at the King’s Fund, 11–13 Cavendish Square, London W1.

A full agenda will be posted shortly and booking for the conference will open soon.

Why this topic?

The focus of this year's conference is desistance because we feel that the prison system is not working. With over 83,000 people currently in UK prisons and a reoffending rate of 61% for those sentenced to less than 12 months, it is a sad reality that people leave prison only to go on to commit more crime. This conference provides the opportunity to focus on different approaches to breaking the cycle of offending and discuss projects which can really make a difference.
